In times past, cattle were guided through Oxfordshire on epic treks from the far reaches of Welsh farms and on to the markets of London. The county is meshed with traces of their routes – in the landscape, in place names and a diaspora of Welsh families. Known as ‘green lanes’ the drovers’ roads evoke a heroic trade which dates back to prehistoric times.
