The archaeological dig at Market Place Mews – progress March 2019

One of the last aerial views taken end February by HA&HG member Richard Pinches of our medieval burgage plots.

The builders‟ machines had moved into the eastern half (left side of picture), while the archaeologists continued to carefully excavate the four medieval burgage plots on the mid right, next to our “Kings Arms Barn” – which is be located by the arrow.

Now the diggers and huge cranes have taken over the whole site. We await the archaeologists‟ report, in due course, about what they have learnt of the many uses these plots have served over the past eight centuries and perhaps also those predating the medieval town.

Thank you Richard for sharing your drone pictures with us!
